NW Fork Loxahatchee River Eelgrass Planting

AquaTech Eco Consultants was contracted by FFWCF to plant 10,000 eelgrass (or Vallisneriaamericana) planting units, referred to as “burritos,” within 15 predetermined restoration areas on 1.5 ft centers. These burritos are prepared and grown out at the aquaculture facility for months before being planted in the field. This gives the plants’ root systems an opportunity to become dense and the leaves a chance to achieve length, all variables which will improve the plants’ ability to survive and thrive once they are planted in a restoration area. These restoration areas were protected from predation by herbivores with exclusion fencing, which FWC contracted AquaTech
